The latest Dell XPS 13 is 11.63 x 7.86 x 0.55 inches and 2.59 pounds. The Lenovo ThinkPad X13s, another Windows on Arm machine, is 11.76 x 8.13 x 0.53 inches and 2.35 pounds. That's comparable to the 12.9-inch iPad Pro, which is 11.04 x 8.46 x 0.25 inches and lighter at 1.51 pounds. Without the type cover, it's 11.3 x 8.2 x 0.37 inches and just 1.95 pounds. Microsoft's tablet form factor makes the Surface Pro 9 considerably smaller than clamshell competitors that also run Windows 11. In fact, an ejector tool is included with the Surface Pro 9 - it's tucked into a card with all of the instruction manuals and warranty information. Any SIM ejector tool will pop the door off, exposing both the nano SIM slot and the SSD (see upgradeability, below). The nano SIM card slot can be found under a door behind the kickstand. (The Intel versions have Thunderbolt 4 and USB 4, so the Arm version is missing out here.) The latter port is used for the charging cable, though if you have a Surface Dock (or any USB-C dock), that could add more expandability. On the left side of the Surface Pro 9 are the two USB Type-C ports, but that's it for expandability other than the proprietary Surface Connect port on the right side of the device. We've had ten years of the Microsoft Surface and this device still isn't great on the lap, but it works just fine on a desk. Flip out the kickstand, and voila: a laptop – sort of. The key board attaches to the bottom of the Pro 9 magnetically. Either way, budget that into your purchase price. In our review kit, that meant a $279.99 Surface Pro Signature Keyboard and Slim Pen 2 bundle, though there are cheaper Signature Keyboards without the stylus included ($179.99), or just a standard keyboard without room to charge a pen ($139.99, originally designed for the Surface Pro X. I suppose you could use a Bluetooth keyboard or a USB-C keyboard you already own, but the best way to go portable is with Microsoft's own Type covers. To use the Surface as a laptop, you'll need to add a keyboard. On the top of the device, there are power and volume buttons (the latter make great sense when used as a tablet, but less so when in laptop mode). But that top does house a 1080p webcam and infrared sensors, so the space is being put to good use. You still get a tall, 3:2, 13-inch display with thin bezels on the sides, though there remains a little room for slimming on the top and bottom. The only marking on the system, besides some antennae lines, is a reflective Windows logo on the kickstand, which extends almost flat. It very much resembles the Surface Pro X, even more so than the Pro 8, with a thin chassis and rounded corners. We reviewed the Pro 9 (with a Microsoft SQ3, more on that later) in the platinum color - the only one that Microsoft offers with Arm chips. It's a thin tablet that can connect to a keyboard to become a full Windows 11 PC. The Surface Pro 9 is following a formula. Is Arm truly ready for the spotlight? Design of the Microsoft Surface Pro 9 The SQ3 isn't as powerful as the Intel version, still has some compatibility issues (though significantly fewer than there used to be) with some Windows apps, and offers slower USB speeds.īut at its core, the Surface Pro 9 using SQ3 largely feels like any other Surface. For some, that may be enough to make it the best ultrabook. If you want a 5G Surface, the SQ3 model is the only way to go.

Google is also rumored to be getting into this market, with their Google Music service that is reported to be in internal testing now. There have been rumors about a similar digital-locker server from Apple for years now, and their North Carolina Data Center has been rumored to be a part of Apple gearing up for a cloud-based service since it was announced. This is a huge move by Amazon, and will put the pressure on Apple to respond. They have the pockets that MP3.com didn’t, and have a great case for moving the industry forward if they can pull of a court victory. Indeed, Sony has commented to Ars Technica that while they were hopeful they could work with Amazon on a licensing deal that they were “keeping their legal options open.” So it’s almost certain that Amazon will see some form of lawsuit about the service.but my money is on Amazon for this one. Let’s not forget, this sort of service is exactly what got MP3.com in hot water with the music labels a decade ago (with, admittedly, technical differences). So you can purchase any amount of music from Amazon, and it will all be available for streaming to any computer or directly to your phone if you have an Android handset. They are also offering a free upgrade to their 20GB storage level if you just buy any MP3 album from Amazon through the end of 2011. In a brilliant marketing move, Amazon is also letting you automatically cross-load any MP3 that you buy from the Amazon MP3 Store directly to your Cloud Drive.and anything that you buy from them doesn’t count against your storage limits. This means that with Cloud Storage + Cloud Player, I can take my own music, upload it to Amazon, and then listen to it anywhere I have a browser.or on the updated Amazon MP3 for Android app on any Android based phone or tablet. It also allows you to build or import playlists, shuffle, and repeat songs in the same way that pretty much every music player does. Cloud Player has the basic controls that you would expect from a music player, allowing you to view your collections by album, artist, or genre. That is, if you use your Cloud Drive to hold MP3 or AAC encoded music files, those will be automatically available to Cloud Player, and can be streamed to nearly any browser. Cloud Player is a web-based media player that has access to the files uploaded to your Cloud Drive. The real killer here isn’t Cloud Drive by ’s the associated Cloud Player and the model that Amazon is using for the connection between the two. There's no reason that Amazon couldn't move this direction, however, and release a program that would allow more direct access. For Cloud Drive, you have to do all file interactions (uploading/downloading) within your browser, which isn't as convenient on traditional computers as a locally-mounted drive. While 5GB free is more than Dropbox's 2GB, and way less than SkyDrive's 25Gb, for raw storage in the cloud I still think Dropbox has everything else beat in usability. Amazon is giving everyone 5GB of space for free, with the ability to purchase additional storage for $1 per Gigabyte in chunks: 20, 50, 100, 200, 500, or 1000 GB levels are all available. The first is Amazon Cloud Drive, Amazon's answer to other consumer-facing cloud storage, is similar to Dropbox or Windows SkyDrive. The two services are connected, but distinct in capabilities and effects, so let's look at them separately: On March 29th, Amazon launched two major new services, both of which seem to speak directly to my post guessing at an Amazon Tablet.as well as being shots across the bow of both Apple and the music industry. If you want to edit system partitions, boot from a. Don’t edit partitions while they’re in use. The following command enters command mode for the first disk device: sudo fdisk /dev/sda. You’ll need the device name of a disk from the fdisk -l command. We have a guide for backing up a Mac, as well as backing up a PC. To work on a disk’s partitions, you have to enter command mode. Characters represented by wildcard characters in filename2 will be identical to the corresponding characters in filename1. You also cant use this command to rename files across drives or to move files to a different directory. Now that you have your drive formatted based on how you plan to use it, take a few minutes and make sure you're backing up your computer. You cant specify a new drive or path when renaming files. Going forward, you should be able to use the drive and its dual partitions on their respective operating systems. Give your settings a final lookover and click Apply. Step2: Select the desired format, and press Start to begin formatting. In the Properties window, on the General tab, type a new name in the Label box ( A ), click Apply ( B ), and then click OK ( C ). In the drop-down menu that appears, select Properties. Right-click the drive you want to rename. Then click the second partition, name it Mac and change its format to APFS. Right click the hard disk icon, and click Format. In the left navigation menu, click This PC. Name one partition Windows and change its format to exFAT. For example, you might want more storage for your Mac than you do for your PC. Click the + sign to add a second partition, then drag the lines to adjust the size of each partition. Select the drive from the left sidebar, then click the Partition tab. To do that, connect the empty external HD to your Mac and launch Disk Utility. You won't be able to write to the Mac side from your Windows computer, and vice versa, but it's a good solution for people who want all the advantages each format has to offer for its respective system. For example, if you have a 1TB hard drive, 500GB of storage can be used with your Windows computer, and 500 will be dedicated to your Mac computer. This solution is a little different than the previous two because instead of having one hard drive that works with both machines, you're splitting your HD into two sections, each dedicated to a different OS. Option 3: Create two partitions on your hard drive to use with each OS, separately. You aren't stuck with your drive formatted for one platform forever. The network license add-in also includes the API extensions and tech support. Network licensing for those users that would like to be able to manage multiple installs. Tech support for those users who need help and or training. The current list of add-ins is small but that will chnage over time as the community grows and requests more capability.Ĭurrently the add-in products available for purchase will be:ĪPI extensions for those users that would like to customize, automate and integrate the product. At that time DraftSight will also offer some add-ins to the product which will be on a purchase basis. Later this year the public beta of DraftSight will end and the release version will be available for free to everyone. This makes DraftSight a very attractive product for me since it can meet all my 2D needs and it costs me nothing. My older seat of software isn’t compatible with the newest operating systems but I don’t use the software enough to justify the upgrade costs. I don’t use my seat of AutoCAD LT all that often but the need does arise on occasion and it’s becoming harder and harder to do this as I upgrade my computer and operating systems. DraftSight will have no issues replacing my seat of AutoCAD LT and in my opinion AutoCAD LT is about the level of product the current release of DraftSight is. I don’t run LISP routines or scripting and if I need any 3D capability I go to SolidWorks so, for me LT is all I need. I’ve also used the full version of AutoCAD but honestly LT meets my 2D needs just fine. Most of my 2D CAD experience has been with AutoCAD LT. Layers, line styles, hatching, blocks, references, grips, object snaps, patterns, tables, model space, paper space, full help files, etc. If you prefer to enter commands on the command line you can do that and you’ll find the commands you know from your previous 2D software work in DraftSight. It’s UI is much better than the SolidWorks 2D Editor mainly because the tool icons are much more readable and understandable. It also feels like a more modern interface than the 2D Editor and it has a good amount of customizability. Overall in my short usage time I like DraftSight. It’s really a very functional, feature rich 2D product and best of all it’s free. I’ve had no issues opening dwg files created in AutoCAD 2004 and they write fine as well. All the features and functions are there, the UI is very familiar, its very stable and it’s performance is good. The software downloaded and installed in about 5 minutes (it’s only a 47 meg package). This allows you, the user input on the software’s future without actually having to know how to write code.Īfter using DraftSight for a few hours, trying to dig in and find out what’s under the hood I’ve learned that its really not that much different than other 2D packages. This feedback will be collected and voted on by the user community in much the same was as SolidWorks Brainstorm works. The DraftSight source code will not be distributed but it will be updated and enhanced based on user feedback. With open source software, the source code is freely distributed, upgraded and altered by users to add features and functions. The idea is based on the open source software model. The idea being, in order for the software to grow, mature and be widely adopted it needs to have a supportive user community behind it. When you activate your free copy of DraftSight you’re also signing up to be part of the DraftSight co mmunity. It will also be offered in Mac and Linux flavors later this year.ĭraftSight is more than just software. Unlike the Solidworks 2D Editor that was free to all SolidWorks subscription customers, Draftsight is free for everyone. You could easily use DraftSight to create 2D layout and detail drawings from scratch for any design in a variety of industries. It’s not limited to this type of work however. DraftSight is aimed at the 3D CAD customer who needs to keep a seat or two of 2D CAD current to work with legacy data, do some 2D drafting, create schematics and offer other company departments (sales for example) some simple drafting tools. Surprisingly, it’s all about 2D and it’s named DraftSight.ĭraftSight is not a replacement for the SolidWorks 2D Editor (formerly known as SolidWorks DWG Editor). The two applications have similarities but are based on different technology. Like the SolidWorks 2D Editor, Draftsight reads and writes DWG and DXF files. It functions basically the same as the SolidWorks 2D Editor and other 2D CAD software you’ve previously used. That’s why I was surprised when I learned the newest software release from Dassault isn’t cloud based and has nothing to do with 3D. I sat in the audience during the conference and listen to Bernard Charles talk about the Dassault family of products and their mantra of “3d for all”. Dassault had the CAD world talking when it showed a cloud based version of SolidWorks at SolidWorks World 2010. If your EMR is entirely Macintosh dependent, then a viable option as long as you have adequate hardware resources is virtualization for running a Windows version of Dragon on your Macintosh, which is really not an ideal solution and in my opinion a waste of hardware resources. If your practice of medicine is dependent upon speech recognition, you should be looking forward and leaving the Macintosh platform for speech recognition. In contrast to the cloud-based solution used at medical enterprises, Dragon Medical Practice Edition 4.3 still supports programmability through their Visual Basic for applications alternative, and allows modification of the vocabulary, functionality sorely lacking in the enterprise version. Meanwhile, Nuance still provides a viable individual solution for medical professionals that meets necessary standards including privacy, and furthermore supports their Dictaphone microphone, which is arguably the most productive microphone to use with Dragon. If you truly depend on speech recognition on the Mac platform, then you are using already outdated a tools that are no longer supported and it should be expected that they will ultimately fail. I am curious about which EMR you are using on the Macintosh platform. Keep an eye on the comments for any further developments a massive THANK YOU to everyone who has taken the time to leave a post to let other Mac users know the state of play. While the software remains end-of-life and unsupported, this appears to be great news (for now) for any Mac users who have invested in this version of the software. Many posts in the comments are reporting continued success running Dragon 6.0.8 in the final public release of macOS Catalina. Looks like this is the end of the line, folks. As Dragon itself won’t be updated, I can’t see this changing for the public release. Just tested and Dragon 6.0.8 does NOT work at all in MacOS 10.15 Catalina (Developer Beta). With no viable native solution (and no realistic competition), Mac users should consider using the Windows software via a virtual machine – something I have long advocated. While the Windows software undoubtedly has a larger installed user base, the majority of writers I come across are using Macs. Obviously, this news brings huge ramifications for Mac users from both an accessibility and workflow standpoint. You can still buy it from the likes of Amazon and eBay but, with a very real prospect of it being disabled by an OS update and no hope of a fix, it wouldn’t be a wise way to spend your money. “During testing we have experienced a few glitches but it seems manageable currently, however future updates may cause further issues, or cause the software to stop all together.”Īll traces of the software have been removed from Nuance’s web site and it is no longer offered for sale. Wyvern Business Systems are reporting the following: While you can continue to use Dragon, it’s anyone’s guess as to when or if it will stop working as Nuance does not guarantee compatibility with the latest version of macOS, Mojave. Despite this, Nuance has pulled the plug.įor anyone who has bought the software within the last 30 days, it might be worth exercising your right to a refund. But things improved dramatically and, with the last 6.0.8 update, it seemed like Mac users finally had a version of Dragon nearer in stability and features than ever to the PC equivalent. The release of version 6 was disastrous at launch – buggy, unstable and borderline unusable. While Dragon on the Mac platform has never been at the same level as the Windows software, things did seem to be improving. Nuance will no longer provide updates for the Software after ”. Via a press release, Nuance stated: “Dragon Professional Individual for Mac is being discontinued effective and will no longer be available for purchase…Customers who have purchased Dragon Professional Individual for Mac version 6 (“Software”) benefit from a perpetual license to the Software and may continue using the Software. Dragon Professional Individual 6 has been discontinued with immediate effect there will be no updates to the existing software and no further versions produced. In a move that is likely to anger and dismay Mac users, Nuance has dropped a bombshell. Please read the updates at the bottom of this post and in the comments below for up-to-date info on this topic. Looks like this dude’s been busy lately first NaturallySpeaking 13, now Dragon for Mac. But is it? One key and very significant factor is glaringly left out of this argument against wearing crosses. Some Christians or opponents of wearing crosses point to Exodus 20:4 in particular, which forbids the creation of graven images. Opponents to cross wearing first and foremost point to the 10 Commandments, particularlyģ Thou shalt have no other gods before me.Ĥ Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth:ĥ Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me But is it actually idolatry to wear a gold cross? Here is wisdom from the Word of God. The idea that a cross may be idolatrous to wear is rooted in old testament passages of the Bible. God was clear that he did not want any images to substitute for him in our worship.14K Solid Gold Plain Cross Pendant Is Wearing a Cross Idolatry? I can make a distinction in my mind about images created for artistic pleasure and recreational intent as long as the ultimate value of the object falls below worship, even of God. If it is a "new" image being created with the intent that it can be used in place of a common idol image, then it too is sinful. If the image being created is a commonly associated idol then it's creation is definitely sinful. I think creating "graven images" by itself is not bad, unless the intent of the image is to facilitate some worship by someone. They are not terminated sentences, each standing on it's own merit, but rely on the previous to give it meaning. We are not to create these graven images or to worhsip them because. My own feeling is that creation of idols, even if not intended for personal worship is forbidden. This is a good question that does not have a good answer without succumbing to legalisms. I'd also like to add, legalism isn't pretty. If they are two seperate commandments, then exactly what does the 'them' in verse 5 mean? So this leads to my question As a believer how to you handle this since obedience is better than sacrifice? But I'm not ashamed to say I just noticed today for the first time that these are two separate commandments and the fourth says we're not supposed to even make them. This one always have made me tremble For some reason I used to try and justify this and out of my ignorance or lack of knowledge of God's word I didn't know that this was to be taken literal like all the other commands, People would want to argue saying that "I have them, but as long as I'm not bowing down and worshipping them it's okay". Those who would be kept from sin must keep themselves from the occasions of it. They must not make such images or pictures as the heathen worshipped, lest they also should be tempted to worship them. Our religious worship must be governed by the power of faith, not by the power of imagination. 2:18.(cross reference) Exodus 20:5- It also forbids us to make images of God in our fancies, as if he were a man as we are. 4 Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth:ĥ Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me 6 And shewing It may be a vicious-looking eel, but it totally has the opposite temperament." "Their jaws are very strong and if you got your finger in there you'd regret it. "They've got faces only a mother could love," said Scott Reid, who cares for wolf eels at Monterey Bay Aquarium. However, the aquarium said wolf eels are not usually targeted by fishermen–such as the ones who carefully placed the eels back in the water in the aforementioned TikTok videos.
22lr, you're given a 40 grain bullet and almost universally, a 1/16 twist - it works OK'ish and has done for over a hundred years. Over that same 50 years, centrefire accuracy has improved in leaps and bounds - 20 years ago a sub 1 moa rifle was something talked about in hushed tones, now it's pretty run of the mill. 50 years later, nothing much has changed - the targets at 100 yards are still the same, rifles are better but 100's are still fairly rare. In the 1960's I was shooting NSRA prone competitions with a BSA International and Tenex ammunition, on the 100 yard targets, scores in the mid to high 90's were quite usual but 100's were quite rare. 22lr has been around for 150 years, the Captain of the Cutty Sark and Abraham Lincoln would both have been quite familiar with it, it's scarcely changed at all. A silent lead HP 69grain bullet at 1050 and 170ftlbs with sub 1moa accuracy at 100 yards sounds good to me, especially if you already have the rifle. Why can't we develop a load that performs better than the humble. 22lr sub is excellent at the job it's designed for, small game at 40-80 yards, and yes, I know it can be taken further but accuracy is, at best, fairly mediocre once you get round the 100yard mark. 22lr subsonic at 1050 gives 97ftlbs - a 69grain bullet at 1050 is not far off double at about 170ftlbs. Being able to just change mags to a full power. 22 and seen a fox just out of humane range. 22lr with subsonic ammunition is that it's so very quiet, and as such is idea for rabbit sized pests at moderate ranges in noise sensitive areas, however, on a good few occasions I've been out with the. It does make me slightly nervous as far as squibs, but given our known velocity at 3.1 is high, I think I’ll be ok.I can certainly see the sense in this, I'm just surprised it's not done more often and amazed that the accuracy problem doesn't seem to have been really cracked yet. No way I’m getting 60 fps more out of a barrel 10 inches shorter. This is why I can’t imagine the data from Hodgdon is out of a 24” barrel. We got supersonic loads from subsonic data, and I’m shooting a 14.5” barrel. Gun didn’t even begin to cycle as expected. I was shocked at how relatively good the SD was given the case fill. The speed of sound given my environmental factors is 1,106. Now, the interesting part: these clearly were not subsonic. Accuracy was surprisingly good at about an inch. I shot three at 25 yards without a suppressor to make sure they were flying straight and I wouldn’t get a baffle strike. The specific subsonic loads document does not list barrel length. They say it’s out of a 24” barrel, but I’m thinking that’s a generic number for the rifle data and is not accurate for this load. This is published load data on Hodgdon’s website.
